ESTATE

The Villetta di Monterufoli estate, located in the southern part of the province of Pisa and in the municipalities of Monteverdi Marittimo, Montecatini Val di Cecina, and Pomarance covers an area of 1030 hectares of hills, practically shaped into a single body, and comprised between 150 and 500 m.s.l.

Over the entire area there are vast woods, for a total of 880 hectares where, besides the predominating species of Holm oak and oak, there are also typical formations of Mediterranean maquis, such as myrtle, arbutus, mastic, juniper, and heather. A large portion of the wooded area of the estate falls within the territory of the Nature Reserve of Monterufoli-Caselli, with a high nature value and part of the SCI/SIR (Sites of Regional Interest/Sites of Regional Importance), identified with code 068 - "Monterufoli Complex".

This splendid setting has many paths (In the Nature Reserve of Monterufoli - Caselli) which offer beautiful landscapes, and is connected to the local traditions of this area that is rich in minerals.

This is proven by the remains of the Lignite Mine, of the Magnesite Mine in the stream of Malentrata, and of the old chalcedony quarries, known since ancient times and used to make mosaics. The predominant agricultural activities of the estate are represented by 16 hectares of vineyards planted about 10 years ago in the hills adjacent to the woods and the presence of a winery located at the entrance of the estate with a sales point where the wines produced can be tasted.

The rest of the company's arable fields consists of alfalfa, grasslands, and crops of wild fauna that create a natural environment, ideal for many species of animals present in the area, such as wild boar, roe deer, fallow deer, fox, porcupine, wolf, and many birds, such as pheasants, partridges, hawks, and buzzards visible from various locations where bird-watching is possible.
